ASSOCIATION OF DEANS OF AGRICULTURE IN NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES (ADAN)

University of Abuja/ 65th Local Organizing Committee

, Dr. Akeem Oyerinde who is the Ag. Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, along with some Members of the LOC. The Meeting which held at the Auditorium of ARCN between 3.53 and 5.00 pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, applauded the LOC for the remarkable progress made so far and
expressed hope that the conference will be one of the best organised in recent times. Briefing the visiting Team, Dr. Oyerinde highlighted some of the achievements of the LOC viz:

a) The Vice-Cnancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed NA’ALLAH excitedly has accepted the hosting right formally and has shown overwheming interest in supporting the Conference,

b) Some Ministries and Agencies have been co-opted as part of the LOC,

c) The full list of the LOC is been finalised, following which it will be forwarded to the President for the records,

d) The theme and sub-themes of the Conferences have been forwarded to the Mangement for approval,

e) The Honourable Minister, FMARD, Dr. Mahmood Abubakar is being contacted through the Permanent Secretary as the Keynote Address Speaker, and
f) Those that will personally deliver letters to potential sponsors and follow up have been identified,

Finally, the Chairman appealed to the President not to distant himself away from the LOC and thus be willing to join them for visits to some highly placed personalities being targetted for
support. Responding, ADAN Team appreciated the LOC Chairman and his Team but counseled that:
i. Whatshapp platform be set up for LOC and EXCOs/BoT added, to facilitate e-meetings
due to the ongoing labour crisis in the Universities,
ii. The possibility of hybrid conference be considered, should the labour crisis in the
Universities continue until conference period,
iii. Electronic flyer be produced and circulated urgently,
iv. As much as possible many more agencies and organizations in agriculture/food value
chain, including Dangote, Nigerian Export Promotion Commission, etc be contacted to
partner with the LOC,
v. The LOC should freely express its challenges even on the platform for solution to be
offered without delays,
vi. Special letters should be written in consultation with ADAN’s Secretary and Treasurer
demanding for offsetting of outstanding annual dues by Universities,
vii. Letters should be written to the Vice-Chancellors to sponsor at least Five (5) Faculty Members to the Conference,
viii. Sub-Committees of the LOC should be set up immediately to commence work,
ix. Recognise that the Conference will also induct Senator (Dr.) Abdullahi Adamu as the Grand Patron of ADAN.

Professor M. A. Bamikole (IPP) said the closing prayer as the Meeting adjourned at 5.00 pm, till Thursday, May 12, 2022, when the Team paid a courtesy visitl on the Vice- Chancellor. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Acad), Professor C. B. I. Alawa received the Team, on behalf of the Vice- Chancellor who was away attending to other urgent official assignments. The DVC assured ADAN of the envisaged unprecedented hosting support from the University. The Team used the opportunity to visit the AIC site.

it is a non-stock, non-profit organization with Deans of different Universities as members, As an association, it envisioned itself as innovative, competent and empowered in leading institutions achieve excellence in agriculture education for national and global development.

The Association is made up of those Universities in Nigeria that offer a degree course in agriculture or related agricultural areas. In Nigeria there are currently thirteen such Universities, spread across every State and located in both metropolitan and rural locations.
